Media Arts, Teenagers & Community Work

I am currently doing something that combines my interests - media arts, teenagers and community work.

I came up with this concept for a video documentary about the town which we reside in. This project is close to my heart as I have lived in this town for many years. On hindsight, perhaps it is my unconscious attempt to consolidate part of my personal history.

I have always liked to be around teenagers. It is fun and energizing to be with them, a nice variation from my necessary solitude and antisocial stance when I am writing. Kind of helps to keep me sane and grounded, too.

Adolescents are half-children and half-adult, and extremely real. They still retain the uncanny ability of children to spot a phony a mile away but are also as sophisticated and expressive as adults when they strike back at people whom they dislike. You need to have a pretty strong sense of self to be able to withstand some of their frank comments.

Still, it is great to walk with them through this tumultuous period in their lives.
