Recently I was reading a film magazine and was struck by the words of an Austrian filmmaker in an interview. He said that when he started making films, his interest was particularly in those on the edges of society. He felt close to them. . . they were in some ways truer.
'People who are more educated aren't true to themselves - they're performing , presenting an image.'
I remember another local filmmaker had mentioned that she preferred to make documentary films about marginalized people in society.
Who am I?
This is a frightening question. Perhaps when you get entrenched in playing a role or roles assigned to you, you can no longer distinguish which part is the real 'you'. Even if you do realize it, it takes a lot of courage and effort to change.
The status quo is always the most comfortable and the least painful choice. Yet in order to attain personal growth and maturity, change is inevitable.
